By Need

Health and safety

Many hazards never become a contract grievance. The union still needs the incident, the claim, the committee follow-up, and who is trained.

Union Software is built for the collective bargaining economy — the local, the unit, the hall, the board — not for an employer HR stack. H&S here uses

How the week runs in the software

Grievances & Cases holds incident, refusal, and claim files as their own types. Education & LMS holds Level 1 and certified-member completions. Those are not a default Step 1 grievance.

The software answers what kind of file it is, who is investigating, whether the claim is restricted, and whose training expired.

How Union Software helps

Open the right type

Grievances & Cases holds investigation, compensation, and union-defined types. Do not force a grievance procedure onto a claim.

The member is on the file

People: classification, worksite, restrictions, credentials.

Agreements only when the book applies

Some H&S language is in the agreement. Much is in statute. Cite what you are actually using.

Training is a credential

Education & LMS: Health and Safety Level 1, certified-member paths, expiry.

Reports can be H&S

Filter by the H&S types, not “all grievances.” The software holds the incident file, the claim, and the training record. Minutes stay with the committee.

Incident or investigation, not a grievance

A near miss or a dangerous condition. The JHSC or H&S rep will investigate. Filing Step 1 on day one may be wrong.

  1. Open an **investigation** (or the local’s H&S type) — not the grievance template.

  2. Attach the member or the group, worksite, and incident date from People.

  3. Record what was seen, who was notified, and the next committee date.

  4. Cite agreement language only if the union is also enforcing a clause; otherwise keep it an H&S file.

How the software handles it

Claim case type

Grievances & Cases stores a restricted claim file. It is not a Step 1 grievance template.

  1. Open the claim type.
  2. Keep medical documents restricted.
  3. Assign the claim team.
  4. Report status without opening those notes.

Refusal case

Process dates and assignment sit on that case.

  1. Open the refusal case.
  2. Record process dates.
  3. Assign the person on the file.
  4. Keep one record across shifts.

Training dates on the person

Education & LMS completions and expiry sit on People.

  1. Open completions.
  2. See who is current.
  3. Keep the course behind the credential.
  4. Let the committee read that record.

Questions they actually ask

How is a claim stored if it is not a grievance?

Open a claim or investigation case type. Medical documents stay restricted. Status can be reported without opening those notes.

Where does a work refusal live?

On its own case with process dates and assignment. A text to the steward is not the file.

How does training expiry show?

Education & LMS completions and dates sit on the person. The committee and Hiring Hall read that record.

Does the product write JHSC minutes?

No. Keep the incident, the claim, and the training in the platform. Minutes stay the committee’s.

Who can open the claim?

Assigned claim team and elevated permission. Cases are private by default.
